Prison Diaries

Collectible Series

Prison Diaries depicts an ever-dormant and unchanging space of a typical prison cell. The body of work represents the introspective journey one is forced to take in a space of isolation or “nothingness” where all external conditions are removed from the space. Under such circumstances, any internal stimulation is heightened thoughts, feelings, and ideas flowing in a current through the person’s mind, affecting how they perceive the space around them. Simultaneously, each minuscule change in the surrounding environment, from the sound of a footstep to a glimpse of the afternoon light, would trigger a different set of emotions and thoughts to the occupant who in return conceives the space they nest in through this unique filter. In that way, the room itself becomes a participant in this intrinsic conversation between thoughts and self, whispering in fragility and embodying in great nuance the material and spatial empathy of life.

Prison Diaries aims to capture such a delicate projection of one’s momentary self to the space by portraying the cold, frontal view of the prison space with a combination of meticulously hand-drawn and painted attributes that impose their own presence and character onto the prison cell. As a result, each of the final images conveys a different emotional response to the viewer.

In a total of 20,000 unique collectible items will be produced at Plenty Works Opensea account starting on May 22nd and a portion of the series will be exhibited as physical prints at the Stratigraphy in May, 2023 organized by Arts Letters and Numbers.
